On August 20, 2025, the Department of Physics, Don Bosco College, Tura, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organized a student seminar to commemorate National Renewable Energy Day, also known as Akshay Urja Diwas. The event was aimed at raising awareness about the importance of renewable energy and its pivotal role in ensuring sustainable development.
The inaugural session commenced with a melodious welcome song presented by the Physics Major students from all three semesters. This was followed by the ceremonial Lighting of the Lamp by the Principal along with faculty members, marking the auspicious beginning of the event.
Dr. Arindam Ghosh delivered the welcome address, extending a warm greeting to the Chief Guest, faculty members, and students. He emphasized the department’s commitment to fostering awareness on sustainable energy practices and highlighted the significance of National Renewable Energy Day in promoting clean energy initiatives.
The Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Januarius S. Sangma SDB, Principal of Don Bosco College, Tura, delivered an inspiring address. He underscored the urgent necessity of transitioning to renewable energy sources in the face of intensifying climate change challenges. Encouraging students to embrace challenging career paths and dream ambitiously, he cited examples of alumni from Don Bosco institutions in the North-East who are now placed in prestigious research institutes across the globe.
The academic highlight of the seminar was a presentation titled “Powering the Future: Renewable Energy for a Sustainable World”, delivered by four 5th Semester Physics Major FYUP students—the first batch enrolled under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The presentation provided a comprehensive overview of renewable energy sources, with a special focus on solar energy. The student presenters—Sr. Ibakordor Mawlieh, Ms. Amsime M. Sangma, Mr. Biplob Koch, and Ms. Nomesilchi R. Marak—took turns to present various aspects of the topic. The session was highly engaging, enriched with relevant data, case studies, and visual aids, reflecting their commendable depth of understanding.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Jabirong A. Sangma, a 1st Semester Physics Major student. Speaking on behalf of the Department, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Guest, faculty members, students, and media representatives for their contributions to the success of the event. He also acknowledged the efforts of the support staff whose assistance ensured the smooth execution of the program. The event received coverage by Hub News Media.
The program was meticulously planned and executed by the Physics Major students under the guidance of faculty members. The Master of Ceremonies or host of the program was Ms. Katrina Newar, a 3rd Semester Physics Major student, while the responsibility of delivering the vote of thanks was ably executed by Mr. Jabirong A. Sangma from st Semester. The effort of the students, along with the support of their peers and colleagues from other departments, exemplified teamwork, organizational skills, and dedication.
