The National Youth Climate Consortium (NYCC) was organised in the BEd complex of Don Bosco College

The National Youth Climate Consortium (NYCC) was organised  in the BEd complex of  Don Bosco College, Tura coordinated by the department of Zoology  with the climate volunteer Rakesh Saha on 6th November,2024 inorder to raise awareness about climate change in the state of Meghalaya and across the globe. The programme was compered by Elmira Jakme B Sangma from BSc 1st Semester, Zoology major student. In this programme, 40 youths were selected from four different institutions namely Don Bosco College Tura, ICFAI University Tura, Government College Tura and J N Higher Secondary School, Phulbari. This convening programme was led by the proud alumnus of DonBosco College , Tura , the climate warrior of NYCC , Rakesh Saha who is the 7th  Rank holder from the department of Zoology. He cleared CSIR-NET last year , completed his masters this year  by securing 5th Rank in  MZU and currently pursuing his PhD in MZU. In the local convening for the Garo Hills climate warriors, he highlighted  about the climate education, youth advocacy and environmental research. During the inaugural programme , Principal of Don Bosco College Tura in his welcome address emphasized the importance of empowering the youth  about the climate education and youth leadership. He wishes that in the near future we would see the climate leaders from these 40 pupils. The inaugural programme was concluded by Madam Rani Aruldass, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, who expressed her gratitude to those who contributed to the success of the programme especially to BSc 5th Semester Zoology major students for working tirelessly.

    In the technical sessions, the first session was taken by Dr. Biswajit Paul Associate Professor, Department of Zoology, emphasizing on the pattern and causes of climate changes. The second session was taken by  Miss Nauras, a  volunteer from Sadhana Forest referring to the soil and its connection to the ecosystem. Third session was taken by the Climate Champion ,Rakesh Saha who did an activity on climate change role play with the participants. In the valedictory function,  Shri Jagdish Chelani, IAS ,Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills,Tura spoke  about  the government initiatives, importance of afforestation  and a plan for cleaning drive in the region of Garo Hills four weeks before the Christmas.
