The Department of Geography, Don Bosco College Tura organized a seminar titled "Unlocking Regional Potential: Industrial Growth, Tourism, and Socio-Economic Diversity in North-East India" on 24th October 2024.
The event started with a prayer from Susana Nonghuloo setting the tone for the day’s discussion. Aries D. Shira, the Master of Ceremony guided the proceedings smoothly.
Mr. Ksanbor Kharkongor, Head of the Department of Geography, warmly welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of balancing development with environmental stewardship. He encouraged the students to view the seminar as a platform for individual growth, urging them to engage deeply with the issues presented.
Rev. Fr. Principal Januarius S Sangma delivered the keynote speech, touching on various themes, including tourism. He reminisced about his childhood in a time when the region remained untouched by modern civilization, evoking a sense of nostalgia for the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the area. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of cultivating entrepreneurial skills to stimulate industrial growth and emphasized the potential for students to contribute to regional development.
Group Presentations:
The seminar featured engaging presentations by four student groups, each offering insights into a specific area of regional potential:
1. Nine Sisters – Focused on the tourism potential in North-East India, showcasing the unique attractions and cultural richness of the region.
2. Phoenix – Explored the cultural diversity of India, underscoring its importance in fostering unity and mutual understanding.
3. Eastern Disturbances – Presented on development and contemporary issues, analyzing current challenges and opportunities within the context of regional growth.
4. Geocyclers – Examined industrial growth and potential, suggesting sustainable industrial strategies that align with environmental objectives.
Mr. Junnar N Marak delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to the speakers, participants, and organizers for their invaluable contributions.
The seminar was a rewarding experience, sparking meaningful discussions on unlocking the North-East region’s potential while promoting individual growth and sustainable development.
