Visit to Flood-Affected Areas in Dalu Region

On 9th October 2024, a group from Don Bosco College, Tura, comprising 9 National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, 8 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets, and 8 members of the Students Welfare Association (SWA), along with six Assistant Professors—Sir Binendro N. Marak, Sir Vicky Ch. Sangma, Sir Namsang K. Marak, Sir Ferick Salnang D. Sangma, Madam Jasmine Sylvera C. Marak, and Madam Chonre C. Marak—visited the flood-affected areas of the Dalu region, specifically Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Dalu.

The group gathered at the college at 8:30 AM, where the Principal, Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, welcomed all participants and expressed his gratitude for their willingness to volunteer and represent the college in this important humanitarian effort. He led a short prayer and emphasized that such acts of service foster social growth, build character, and encourage students to step outside their comfort zones. The journey to Dalu began at 8:30 AM, and the group arrived at Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School at around 12:15 PM.

Upon arrival, the Principal of the school, Fr. Biju Paul, extended a warm welcome to the group and promptly discussed the day's activities. The volunteers, comprising NSS, NCC, and SWA members, assisted in distributing essential supplies to families affected by the flood. Items such as dry rations—pulses, onions, chilies—and other necessary goods were distributed, addressing the immediate needs of the victims. Some of the volunteers also engaged in conversations with the affected families, sharing in their experiences and offering empathy and support.

The group completed their tasks by 3:00 PM and began their return journey, arriving back at the college at 6:00 PM. Fr. Januarius S. Sangma expressed his gratitude once again, acknowledging the volunteers' dedication and commending them for their noble service. With the conclusion of the day's activities, everyone dispersed from the college premises, having contributed to a meaningful and impactful cause.

This visit not only provided much-needed relief to the flood-affected community but also instilled in the students a sense of responsibility and compassion, leaving a lasting impression on all who participated.
