The World Animal Day (WAD) was celebrated by the department of Zoology, Don Bosco College, Tura on 4th October, 2024 to raise awareness about animal welfare and to promote the protection of all animals across the globe. This date was chosen to align with the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, a renowned patron saint of animals and the environment. The celebration was done in the department by organizing two events, Poster making Competition and Essay writing Competition in order to promote artistic expression and creative writing among the talented students of science stream on the occasion of World Animal Day celebration. The theme for WAD is “The world is their home too”. The poster competition was held at 10:30am and the essay competition at 1:15pm in Room No 221. Under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Biswajit Paul, this event was supervised by the faculties of Zoology department, Madam Rani Aruldass, Sir Tenang Marak, Sir Surjoron Hajong and Madam Bonme A Sangma. With great enthusiasm, the students took part in the event.

     In the Poster competition, Nikita Sarkar from BSc 5th Semester Chemistry honours clinched the 1st prize, followed by Saljakchime D Sangma from BSc 5th Semester Zoology honours won the 2nd prize and Karina Narzary from BSc 3rd Semester Zoology honours got the 3rd prize. In essay writing compettion, once again Nikita Sarkar won the 1st prize, followed by Gladish Sangma from BSc 1st Semester Zoology honours won the 2nd prize and Cheenia Salniachi W Momin from BSc 3rd Semester Botany honours won the 3rd prize.

    The judges were selected from the different departments. For the poster competition, Madam Alwisha T Sangma from Dept of Geography and Madam Tusumika Adhikary from Dept of Sociology. The judges for essay competition were Madam Zinnia K Marak from Dept of English and Madam Jordana Dipera R Marak from Dept of Political Science. We in the department are extremely thankful to all the judges for sparing their precious time in judging and also for the participants for showcasing their talents.
