Departmental Seminar Organised by Department of Education, Don Bosco College, Tura

 

Tura, 3rd October 2024: The Department of Education at Don Bosco College, Tura, hosted a successful seminar focusing on two significant topics: "Quality and Excellence in Higher Education in India with Reference to Meghalaya" and "Women Empowerment in Education." The event was held at Bosco Hall, Don Bosco College, and commenced at 10 AM with the participation of faculty and students alike.

 

The seminar opened with a prayer song performed by Ritime, a student from the Department of Education, setting a reflective tone for the day's discussions. The Master of Ceremony for the event was Noritchi, a 5th-semester student of Education Honours, who guided the proceedings smoothly.

 

Dr. Uma Roy Bhowmik, Head of the Department of Education, welcomed the attendees, including Rev. Fr. Principal Januarius S. Sangma, faculty members, and students. In her address, she emphasised the importance of empowering women through education and highlighted the strides made in higher education in Meghalaya, thanks to various government initiatives aimed at improving quality and accessibility.

 

A group song performed by Lashmi and her friends added a lively interlude to the program before Rev. Fr. Principal Januarius S. Sangma delivered his speech. He underscored the value of organising such seminars, expressing his satisfaction with the choice of topics and the learning opportunities they presented for students. His words served to motivate participants to engage deeply with the discussions.

 

Following the Principal’s remarks, Dr. Meuller B. M. Sangma expressed her gratitude to those who contributed to the success of the seminar. She acknowledged the efforts of Rev. Fr. Principal, Dr. Uma Roy Bhowmik, Dr. Barbara S. Sangma, Mr. John Satish for technical support, as well as Mrs. Rubitha Sangma, Mr. Abhimanyu Sharma, and the students of the 1st, 3rd, and 5th semesters.

 

The technical session followed, where students presented papers on the topics of the seminar. Each presentation was met with an engaging question-and-answer session, encouraging active participation and thoughtful discussion. The seminar provided an excellent platform for students to explore and share their perspectives on the pivotal issues of higher education quality and women's empowerment.

 

The event concluded with a sense of accomplishment, with students leaving enriched by the knowledge and insights gained from the discussions. The seminar proved to be an important step in fostering academic discourse and raising awareness of critical issues within the education system in Meghalaya.
