GANDHI JAYANTI OBSERVED THE CLEANLINESS DRIVE AT DON BOSCO COLLEGE TURA

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, 2024, the National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) at Don Bosco College, Tura, united to observe the day by conducting a significant cleanliness drive. This initiative covered the main road leading to the college and the entire campus, reflecting the disciplined and service-oriented ethos of both national youth movements.

In preparation, two meetings were held during the lunch breaks, where the students meticulously planned the event, arranging logistics and delegating responsibilities for a smooth execution. The college’s Vice Principal, alongside three Associate Professors—Mr. Ferick Salnang D Sangma, Mr. Dhiraj Rabha, and Ms. Jasmine Ch Marak—supported and accompanied the student volunteers throughout the drive.

On 2 October, at 7.30 am, the Principal warmly welcomed the students, acknowledging their dedication to the cause of nation-building. In his brief address, he spoke about Mahatma Gandhi's exemplary life, recalling his unwavering commitment to India's independence and his advocacy for truth, non-violence, and justice. The Principal highlighted Gandhi’s spirituality, notably reflected in his last words, "He Ram," symbolizing his deep connection with the divine and his lifelong fight against oppression and exploitation.

The event commenced with a short prayer, followed by a spirited rendition of the national anthem. The Principal then officially inaugurated the cleanliness campaign, and the students, equipped with hard brooms, garbage bags, and knives for cutting grass, began their work in earnest. The volunteers diligently cleaned the designated areas, ensuring they were left immaculate by the end of the activity.

After the successful completion of the drive, light refreshments were served to all participants, marking the conclusion of a day filled with purpose and community spirit.
