Report on District level Red Ribbon Youth Festival 2024

The District Level Red Ribbon Club Youth Festival took place on 13th July 2024 at Don Bosco College of Teacher Education Hall, Tura, organized by Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS), Shillong in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club and NSS, Don Bosco College, Tura. Extensive preparation and planning were keys to the event’s success. The organizing committee under the Principalship of Fr. Januarius S. Sangma worked diligently for weeks to promote the event. The teacher-in-charges also played a crucial role, assisting with everything from setting up the venue to managing registrations and providing support throughout the event. The whole program was conducted by Dr. Meuller B.M.Sangma, Deputy Nodal Officer, Red Ribbon Club, Don Bosco College,Tura.

The event started off with a grand opening program at 10:00 am. The Chief Guest, Dr. Rajamoni D. Marak, delivered an inspiring speech that set the tone for the day. The program included a prayer song by the students of Don Bosco College, Tura to symbolize the official start, a welcome address by Dr. Barbara S Sangma, the event Nodal Officer, Red Ribbon Club, a special song by the students of Tura Government College, Tura and also a mesmerizing performance by one of the Folk Singing Competition Judges Madam Chickoo B. Marak which captivated the audience and the Principal Fr. Januarius S. Sangma's speech highlighting the importance of preservation and promotion of culture  and preventing Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome was a defining element in the event. Another ingredient to the event was the speech by one of the officials of MACS, Shiilong Madam Larina Nongpew, Additional Deputy Project Director who emphasised the objective of MACS as empowering the youth through competitions.

The Red Ribbon Club Youth Festival 2024 featured three areas of activities designed to engage and entertain attendees of schools and college level students. The main competitions were held, including Marathon race, Folk Song and Quiz competitions. Participants demonstrated their skills and creativity contributing to the awareness of HIV/AIDS and other related issues competing for awards and recognition. Interactive sessions were set up to engage attendees during the Quiz.

The event concluded with a closing ceremony at 3:30 pm, where the organizers thanked everyone for their participation and support. Certificates were presented to the winners of the competitions and to participants who made significant contributions to the event’s success. Don Bosco College, Tura was declared the winner of Folk Song Competition and Tura Public School, Tura was the winner of Quiz Competition. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners.

Attendee feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the organizers, areas of activities, and the overall atmosphere of the event. Suggestions for improvement were also collected and will be considered for future events. The success of District Level Red Ribbon Youth Festival 2024 has set a high standard, and plans are already underway to make the next event even bigger and better.
