CELEBRATION OF WORLD POPULATION DAY 2024  IN DON BOSCO COLEGE, TURA

 

World Population Day is an annual event that is observed on 11th July every year across the world. It is celebration to increase awareness among people towards population issues. It was established in the year 1989 by the United Nations Development Programme and has been celebrated since 1990. The theme for 2024 is “Leave No One Behind, Count Everyone”.

The Department of Economics, Don Bosco College, Tura celebrated the day by organizing a seminar for the students. The anchor for the programme was a 5th semester student of the department Miss Cynthia R. Marak. The welcome address was delivered by Prof Koyel Roy. Principal Januarius S.Sangma also spoke on the occasion about the importance of the day.

Prof. Siddhartha Roy from the department of Economics highlighted the importance of gender equality. Students of the 2nd and 5th semester presented papers on population issues and challenges it poses to the environment. Some elaborated on gender issues and some made a comparative study of the population of China and Japan.

Prof. Tengsuang K. Sangma in his vote of thanks appreciated the students for their informative presentation and thanked everyone for their hard work.

The seminar was a success and all the students participated in it with great enthusiasm.
