Don Bosco College, Tura, one of the most prestigious Colleges of the State of Meghalaya and a premier College in the Garo Hills Region witnessed a change of guard in June 2023; as Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, SDB laid down his office as Principal of the College on 8th June and joined his office as Vice Provincial of the Guwahati Province of Mary, Help of Christians. The staff of the College, under the leadership of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized a beautiful Valedictory Programme and a sumptuous dinner on the same day.
During the Programme, Vice Principal of the College, Fr. John Paul Tirkey, SDB, thanked the outgoing Principal, Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim for his outstanding service and dedication to Don Bosco College, Tura for seven years as it’s Principal and felicitated him with the help of the teachers. The IQAC Coordinator, Dr. Barbara S. Sangma, in her speech delivered in the form of a poem, enumerated all the major achievements of Fr. Bivan Mukhim as Principal of the College. All the Heads of the Departments, Senior Teachers and representatives from Non-teaching Staff and many others spoke on the occasion detailing the various contributions of Fr. Mukhim beginning from putting the affairs of Don Bosco College in order, reconstituting the NAAC team, reconstituting IQAC, preparaton and submission of of Annual Quality Assurance Reports from 2017-2023 (and retrospectivelyof the years before he took up office), Setting the Service Books of the Staff in order; preparation of various Policies and SoPs, introduction of uniforms to students, getting the College re-accredited by NAAC, reopening of Morning Shift and introduction of Day Shift classes and introduction of Certificate and Value added courses, setting up of centres for various external examinations, especailly for National Testing Agency (NTA). Who can forget the introduction of morning assemblies for students and teachers; the first Group Dance, the Ramp Walks, the free-for-all jigs, the Staff Picnics and so much more.
Fr. Bivan Mukhim took the stage for one last time and thanked everyone for having cooperated and supported him from the jump up to the day he retired. The evening ended on a sombre-sweet note with a special dinner arranged at the well-decked up lobby of the College.
