Workshop on GIS Career Opportunities for Geography Honours Students.
The Department of Geography, in collaboration with the GRED Institute of GIS, organized a one-day workshop to enlighten students about the vast career opportunities available in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The workshop aimed to provide insights into the practical applications of GIS technology and its significance in various fields.
The event began with a keynote address by GIS expert Mr. Joydeep Ghosh, who shared valuable insights on the evolving GIS landscape and its modern relevance. Two successful alumni demonstrated map generation using GIS software, providing practical examples. A detailed presentation highlighted career opportunities in sectors such as urban planning, environmental management, disaster response, agriculture, and transportation. Interactive sessions allowed students to engage with speakers, ask questions, and explore career guidance in GIS.
The workshop was attended by 4th and 6th-semester students of the Geography Department, whose enthusiastic participation and keen interest in learning about GIS technology were evident throughout the event.
The workshop on career opportunities in GIS was a resounding success, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Department of Geography and the GRED Institute of GIS. By providing students with valuable insights and practical knowledge, the workshop has undoubtedly paved the way for them to explore rewarding careers in the field of Geographic Information Systems.
