Geography Students Embark on a Fascinating Study Tour Across Darjeeling and Gangtok.

The Geography Department recently organized a captivating study tour for its 6th-semester students, providing them with a week-long exploration of the picturesque landscapes and cultural wonders of Darjeeling and Gangtok. The journey, led by Assistant Professors Ksanbor Kharkongor and Alwisha T Sangma, proved to be an enriching and unforgettable experience for the students.

The adventure kicked off on January 7th, 2024, as the group departed from Tura. Their first destination was Darjeeling, and along the way, they made a stop at Mirik, immersing themselves in a cultural experience that set the tone for the rest of the tour.

Upon reaching Darjeeling on January 8th, the students were treated to a mesmerizing sunrise at Tiger Hill, a moment that left them awe-inspired. The itinerary included visits to the Japanese Temple, the iconic Batasia Loop, and the Darjeeling Zoological Park. The latter proved to be a highlight as students encountered Snow Leopards, Black Panthers, Royal Bengal Tigers, and a variety of exotic birds.

The Himalayan Institute of Mountaineering provided students with insights into the challenges and triumphs of conquering the Himalayas. Subsequent visits to Darjeeling's renowned tea gardens offered a glimpse into the intricate process of tea production, while a leisurely stroll through local markets allowed students to immerse themselves in the vibrant culture.

The journey continued to Gangtok, where an evening at MG Mart provided opportunities for delightful cuisine, shopping, and gaming. The following day saw the group exploring the stunning Tsomgo Lake, the historic Nathula, and the sacred Baba Mandir. A spontaneous stop for snow-filled fun added an unexpected, yet thrilling, element to the adventure.
