Tura Me.gong International Literary Festival Inaugurated with Grand Success.
The first edition of the Tura Me.gong International Literary Festival, organized by Don Bosco College, Tura, in collaboration with the Achik Literature Society (ALS), marked a resounding success. The event, graced by the presence of dignitaries including the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya Shri Conrad K. Sangma and Hon’ble Education Minister Shri Rakkam A. Sangma, provided a platform for scholars, writers, and literature enthusiasts to engage in meaningful discussions on A.chik poetry, prose, and fiction.
The inaugural ceremony, attended by various dignitaries, witnessed Education Minister Shri Rakkam A. Sangma emphasizing the importance of the LitFest in fostering a love for A.chik literature among academicians and students. He encouraged scholars to actively participate in serious discussions, contributing to the enrichment of A.chik literary studies.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Conrad K. Sangma expressed gratitude for the well-organized event and expressed his wish for future LitFests to be even more inclusive, involving writers and scholars from across the state and the country. He highlighted the government's commitment to the development of A.chik studies, mentioning the ongoing initiative to complete the Tribal Institute at Babadam.
The LitFest received additional prestige with the presence of esteemed guests, including the Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills Shri Jagadish Chelani IAS and the Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills Shri Abraham T. Sangma.
The one-day festival featured diverse sessions, including discussions on Garo Poetry, Garo Literature, Garo Folklore, Garo Prose, and Garo Folklore. Notably, participants from neighboring Bangladesh joined the festival, engaging in a thought-provoking session on the "Rendezvous between Mandi of Bangladesh and A.chiks of Garo Hills."
The success of the Tura Me.gong International Literary Festival reflects the growing interest and enthusiasm for A.chik literature, bringing together intellectuals, writers, and cultural enthusiasts in a celebration of literary diversity and cultural richness. The organizers are optimistic about building on this success in the future editions, fostering a deeper appreciation for A.chik literary heritage on a broader scale.
