Seminar Explores Political Ideologies: A Showcase of Intellectual Excellence.
In an engaging and insightful seminar held on November 20, 2023, the Department of Political Science at Don Bosco College, Tura delved into the rich tapestry of political ideologies, exploring the thoughts and concepts of both Western and Indian political thinkers. Titled "Political Concepts and Thoughts of Western and Indian Political Thinkers," the seminar showcased the intellectual prowess of the fifth-semester students.
The seminar featured seven groups of students, each assigned to present on a specific political thinker and their ideas. The diverse topics covered in the presentations included:
1. Group 1: Thomas Hobbes’ Views on Human Nature and Absolutism
2. Group 2: Karl Marx’s Theory of State
3. Group 3: B.G.Tilak’s Political Thought on Nationalism
4. Group 4: J.S. Mill’s Views on Individual Liberty
5. Group 5: Jawaharlal Nehru’s Vision of Democratic Socialism
6. Group 6: M.N. Roy’s Concept of New Humanism
7. Group 7: B.R. Ambedkar’s Role Towards the Upliftment of the Dalits in India
The seminar, hosted by students Chanisa C Marak and Payel Marak, was graced by the presence of Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, the Principal. In his address, Fr. Mukhim highlighted the significance of such academic events in fostering a comprehensive understanding of political concepts and encouraging critical thinking among students.
The seminar drew an audience comprising both first and fifth-semester Political Science honors students, along with esteemed faculty members including Asst. Prof. Binendro N. Marak (HoD), Asst. Prof. Bristina D. Shira, and Asst. Prof. Kimberley Nokimbe G. Momin.
Each presentation demonstrated the students' commendable grasp of their assigned topics, seamlessly connecting historical political theories to contemporary challenges. The intellectual depth exhibited during the seminar underscored the Department of Political Science's commitment to nurturing critical thinking and academic excellence among its students.
