Empowering Girls in Cyber Security: NIELIT, Shillong Hosts Special Program for DBCT Students.

 

In a bid to address the growing concerns related to cyber threats and bullying, the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Shillong, organized a special program on Cyber Security exclusively for female students of DBCT. The event, held on November 17, aimed to raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by girls in the realm of social media and online security.

 

The program featured Shri Gordon Kynsai Nongkynrih, Senior Scientist C., NIELIT, Shillong, as the resource person. Shri Santanu Borgohain, Scientist E & Director, delivered a message and spoke during the inaugural session. He highlighted the importance of empowering young minds with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the digital landscape safely.

During his address, Shri Borgohain announced NIELIT, Shillong's readiness to undertake a comprehensive training program for the students of Don Bosco College, Tura. This initiative reflects NIELIT's commitment to extending its expertise and resources beyond its immediate community.

 

Fr Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, the Principal of the college, extended a welcome to the guests and the resource person. He emphasized the significance of such programs in equipping students, especially girls, with the tools to protect themselves in the virtual world.

 

Dr Barbara S. Sangma, the IQAC Coordinator, shared insights into the relevance of the training program for female students. She emphasized the need for girls to be well-versed in cyber security to safeguard themselves against potential threats and harassment on various online platforms.

The program witnessed active participation from the students, who engaged in interactive sessions and discussions on topics ranging from online safety practices to recognizing and responding to cyber threats. The event concluded on a positive note, with students expressing gratitude for the valuable insights gained during the program.
