Department of Geography Hosts Inspiring Seminar on North East India's Tourism Potential
In a bid to foster intellectual growth and teamwork among its students, the Department of Geography organised a one-day Departmental Seminar centered around the theme of 'Exploring the Prospects, Potentials, and Challenges of Tourism in North East India.' The seminar, held on August 10, 2023, at the Bosco Hall, witnessed a dynamic gathering of students from various semesters and esteemed faculty members, all passionate about unlocking the hidden treasures of the North East's tourism landscape.
The event was a testament to the dedication and perseverance of the 5th semester students who orchestrated the seminar with finesse and determination. Divided into six groups, each unit delved into the promising prospects, untapped potentials, and complex challenges of tourism within a particular state of the North East.
The captivating topics and corresponding groups were as follows:
1. Eastern Elegance Alliance - 'Arunachal Pradesh: Land of the Rising Sun'
2. Naga Fusion Front - 'Nagaland: Land of Festivals'
3. Abode of Clouds Unity - 'Meghalaya: Halfway to Heaven'
4. Tea Trails Guild - 'Assam: Gateway to North East India'
5. Harmony Himalayan Alliance - 'Sikkim: Land of Paradise'
6. Jewel of the East Alliance - 'Manipur: Jewel of India'
The seminar culminated with a thought-provoking question and answer session that underlined the depth of comprehension and enthusiasm among the attendees.
The event was graced by the presence of Fr. John Paul Tirkey, Vice Principal of Don Bosco College, Tura, who delivered insightful reflections on the seminar's theme, inspiring and motivating the participating students. Dr. Barbara S Sangma, the IQAC Coordinator, shed light on the pivotal role of tourism in the region and highlighted the inherent warmth and hospitality of the local communities. She stressed that with the right strategies, the tourism industry in North East India could flourish remarkably.
Adding to the conversation, Mr. Ksanbor Kharkongor, Assistant Professor and Head of the Geography Department, shared his profound insights, wishing the students success in their future pursuits.
Miss Alwisha T Sangma, on behalf of the organizing committee, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Principal for providing such enriching platforms for learning and growth. She extended warm appreciation to the dedicated participants for their meticulous efforts and unwavering patience.
