Three-day Regional Writers’ Workshop held
The three-day Regional Writers’ Workshop organizsed by the A•chik Literature Society, Tura in collaboration with the Department of Garo, Don Bosco College, Tura, which began on September 8, concluded with the valedictory function at the College, on Saturday 10th September 2022.
A total of 234 participants from various institutions like Don Bosco College, Tura, ICFAI University, Tura, NEHU Tura Campus, including aspiring writers from all over Garo Hills registered for the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Milton S. Sangma, Rtd. Pro-Vice-Chancellor, NEHU Tura Campus& ICFAI, University, Tura, expressed the hope that participants in the Writers’ workshop would foster writing in various literary genres and that the young writers would keep in mind the demand for inclusion of Garo in the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India. The Vice-President Mrs. Giribala G. Momin, urged the participants to constantly practice writing in Garo.
On the first day of the workshop, the resource person Dr. Dokatchi Ch. Marak, Associate Professor, Department of Garo, NEHU Tura Campus, Tura, taught the participants on how to write research papers. Mr. Basan R. Marak, Assistant Professor, Tura Christian College, Tura shared his ideas on fiction writing and Dr. Crystal Cornelious D. Marak, Assistant Professor, NEHU Tura Campus, Tura, elaborated on the art of fiction on the second and the third day respectively.
Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, SDB, Principal, Don Bosco College, Tura, Mr. Wilberth D. Marak, a novelist, Mr. Hiracleush M. Sangma, a poet and the teachers of the various colleges of Tura town were present at the three day Regional Writers’ Workshop.
Certificates were distributed to the participants during the Valedictory function by Mrs. Giribala G. Momin, Vice-President, ALS, Mr. Nicholas M. Sangma, Head, Department of Garo, Don Bosco College, Tura, and Mr. Wilberth D. Marak.
