Don Bosco College, Tura Alumni Meet cum Centenary Celebration of the Coming of the Salesians to North-East India (1922-2022) 25th August 2022

The Don Bosco College, Alumni Meet cum Centenary Celebration of the Coming of the Salesians to North-East India (1922-2022) commenced on a devotional note, with an alumnus Agape P Marak intoning a hymn ‘I will thank You Lord for the blessings, for calling me to be your son …” which inspired everyone present to raise their minds and hearts to God invoking His presence and His guidance.

Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodrigues Mukhim SDB, the Principal of Don Bosco College accorded a warm welcome to all the alumni for the Meet as well as for the Centenary Celebration of the coming of the Salesians to North East India. The principal briefed the gathering about the arrival of the Salesians to North East India in 1922 and the arduous task the missionaries undertook in order to spread the message of God’s love and to spread the charism of Don Bosco in North East. The Welcome speech of the principal was followed by a song “Welcome to the Family” by the teaching faculty of Don Bosco College.

Dr. Barbara S Sangma, the IQAC Coordinator of the College, delivered a speech and explained the terms IQAC (Internal Quality Assessment Cell) and NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Cell) and spoke about the relationship between IQAC and the Alumni.  She further said that NAAC is a body in Bangalore that assesses the Institutions of Higher Education and gives the credit.   She created awareness in the alumni by asking them what are the Alumni of Don Bosco doing? What can one contribute to the college as an alumnus? She also urged the alumni to be active and to cooperate with the College for the NAAC Visit. Dr. Barbara also informed the assembly that Don Bosco College is in its last year of preparation for NAAC.

Donme Ch Marak, Augustine Marak, Dr. Uttan Tamo Ch Sangma and Dr. Pilne A Sangma on behalf of the past pupils recalled their experiences in the College and called the college their second home and expressed their gratitude for the indispensable role that the College has played in shaping and molding them.

The momentous event of the Meet was the election of the New Office Bearers. The election was conducted by Mr. Hilarius Ch Sangma – the Secretary of the Provincial Federation of Don Bosco Past Pupils Association Guwahati Province and the President of the Alumni Association of Don Bosco  Higher Secondary School, Tura of  and the outgoing President Mr. Firdoz Momin of Don  Bosco College, Alumni Association along with the Principal Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodrigues Mukhim.  Some names of past pupils were suggested to the group and the majority consensus was taken into consideration and thus the following office bearers were elected unanimously.

After the elections the outgoing president Mr. Firdoz Momin thanked everyone and urged the new office bearers and all present to work together for the DBC Alumni Association. He also expressed his gratitude in a special way to the founding principal Rev. Fr. V.A. Cyriac SDB, whom he regarded as his ‘mentor’ and ‘guru’ and his teachers particularly of the department of Economics and he also said that he is proud to be a past pupil of Don Bosco College and assured his help and support for the well functioning of the Association. He also recalled some of the activities carried out in the name of the association during his tenure of office that is adopting Matchikol village.

Young and dynamic artistes Aema Rangsi, Noga Sangma and Silberth A Sangma mesmerized the assembly with their special numbers, Dolampas and Co enthralled the huge gathering,  Jitupan Bora and Wilber Marak entertained the assembly with their lively songs. Mr. Meghalaya 2021 Atlanta D Shira also displayed his Body Building Skills.

The enriching and entertaining programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Assistant Professor Koyel Roy of the department of Economics.
