DBCT participates in Centenary Celebration of the Arrival of Don Bosco Missionaries
The students of the college took active part in celebrating 100 years of the arrival of the Salesians of Don Bosco to Northeast India, the Province of Guwahati organises the Garo Hills Regional Level Celebrations on 18-19 March 2022 at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School playground.
The students performed the wangle dance and took part in the Singing, dancing and Qiz competitions. The NCC Cadets volunteered during the entire programme.
On the first day, the youth fest was inaugurated by Rev Fr Januarius S. Sangma, Provincial of Guwahati. A large number of youth from all the Salesian Schools, parishes and institution of Garo Hills participated in the event.
The celebration culminated on 19th March, with the celebration of the Holy Mass by Rt Rev Andrew R. Marak, Bishop of Tura in the presence of Auxiliary Bishop of Tura Rt Rev C. J. Jose and a number of priests, religious and young people from all over Garo Hills.
For the cultural programme, Shri James Sangma, Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Forests and Environment, Government of Meghalaya was the Chief Guest. In his speech he spoke of the contributions of the Salesians in the fields of Education, Health and Social services. He reminded those present that his late father was the main beneficiary of the Salesians. “The Salesian took my father from a small village and gave him education. The family owes in depth to the Salesians,” he said.
He wished that the Salesian continue to thrive to work for the poorest and the marginalized in society.
Others who spoke at the programme were Auxiliary Bishop of Tura Rt. Rev. C J Jose. He appreciated the Salesians for their great contribution to the church and the society. Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Guwahati gave the short history of the Salesians in Northeast India. He also shared the contributions of the missionaries in Garo Hills.
The Chief Guest gave away the prizes of the various competition held to observe the day while the young students performed various cultural dances.
