NCC observes “Armed Forces Flag Day 2021”
The NCC Unit of Don Bosco College, Tura observed “Armed Forces Flag Day 2021” to show appreciation and contribute to the welfare of armed forces. The Armed Forces Flag Day or the Flag Day of India is a day dedicated to India towards the collection of funds from the people of India for the welfare of the Indian Armed Forces personnel. It has been observed annually in India on December 7 since 1949. The NCC cadets of the college sold the Armed Forces Flag Day stickers to raise funds for the armed forces which was sent by the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Meghalaya. The Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Meghalaya is looking after the welfare of Ex-Servicemen belonging to the Army, Navy, Airforce, their pensionary benefits, medical facilities and other financial assistance from the Central and State Government. A total of 1815 stickers were sold. The sale proceeds of 1815 stickers should be Rs. 9075, however, the cadets manage to collect a donation of Rs. 12,310 in total. The donation collected were handed over to the Principal of the college, Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, and will be deposited into the account of Sainik Welfare, Meghalaya. A programme was also held wherein certificates were distributed by the Principal of the college to cadets securing different positions in the Poster making Competition held on the eve of World Aids Day 2021. In addition, the cadets who donated blood in the Blood Donation Camp held on NCC Day were given the NCC Blood Donor Badge. Speaking on occasion, the Principal lauded the efforts of the NCC cadets to raise funds for the welfare of the armed forces. He also encouraged the cadets to continue to render their selfless service to the society and nation as a whole. Various cadets were also given the opportunity to speak about the importance of Armed Forces Flag Day and their experience as NCC cadets.
