DBCT Bids farewell to Prof Kalyan Momin

The staff and students of Don Bosco College Tura bade a solemn farewell to Kalyan C Momin, Associate Professor and Head of the History Department and Shri Starline D Sangma, Peon, on 9th April 2021. The two retirees were felicitated by the Principal, Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim amidst the resounding cheer of students at the amphitheatre. A student from the Department of History gave a speech thanking Prof. Kalyan for his thirty-four years of dedicated service to the college. Prof. Siddhart Roy spoke recalling the dedicated service and noble qualities of both Prof. Kalyan and Shri Starline D Sangma. The students presented a song and a dance item on the occasion.

On the previous evening (8th April) the Staff of the college organized an exclusive farewell get-together to express their love, respect and gratitude to Prof. Kalyan Momin and to Shri Starline D. Sangma. The Principal, Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim opened the intimate get-together by a felicitation speech. He thanked the retirees for their great dedication to the college. The Principal along with Rev. Fr. Francis Cherambeem, Director, Don Bosco College-Higher Secondary Section honoured them  with kotip, traditional A∙chik headgear and pandra- an adornment meant for a warrior worthy of respect as a result of sustained dedication and hard work done to one’s tribe/community. Almost all the senior teachers spoke on the occasion recalling the scholarly attributes and friendship and sense of camaraderie of Prof. Kalyan, not to forget the leadership he accorded the teaching staff for three decades. Prof. Sanggra A. Sangma spoke in his capacity as the senior-most teacher to succeed Prof. Kalyan C. Momin. All the speakers thanked and congratulated Shri Starline too for his dedicated and loyal service to the college. Tokens of appreciation were presented to the retirees by both the teaching and non-teaching staff. A cake especially baked for the occasion and the Prayer led by Rev. Fr. Francis Cherambeem and a short video presentation with the background score by Jim Reeve’s “May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You” added a lot of significance to the farewell get-together. Prof. Kalyan Momin spoke and thanked the college for the many years of fulfilling service and Shri Starline D. Sangma too spoke highly about the college and the pioneers and the founders of the college.  The evening waned and merged with sweet memories and came to an end with a sumptuous dinner cooked by the non-teaching staff of the college.
