NSS Republic Day parade training camp

Two students of the college Ms. Joana Marak and Mr. James Sangma were selected to represent the University for the National Service Scheme’s pre-Republic Day parade camp for the eastern region. The programme was inaugurated at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) on 05th November and will continue till 15th of November.

Altogether, 200 NSS volunteers from 10 states, including West Bengal and Odisha, are participating in the 10-day camp, of which 40 NSS volunteers would be selected to participate in the Republic Day parade to be held in New Delhi in January next year.

The camp was formally inaugurated at USTM’s Ninth Mile campus by Dipak Kumar, regional director, NSS in the presence of P. R. Khound, director, directorate of sports and youth welfare, Assam, Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM, PK Goswami, Vice Chancellor and Alaka Sarma, Pro-VC of USTM. The camp is being organised by NSS in association with USTM. Experts from different government and non-government organisations from across the country will impart training on parade, life skills, yoga and cultural programmes to the participants during the camp.

The Principal Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim said that the selection of the two students from the college by the university is a welcome news and wished that the students are also selected to be part of the contingent for the Republic Day parade at Delhi. He said that only three students have been selected from Garo Hills region of Meghalaya and two from the college makes us very happy.
