NE NSS FESTIVAL 2020
There could not have been a better time to host the North-East National Service Scheme (NE NSS) Festival-2020 in Don Bosco College, Tura. The festival was ushered in amidst a soulful rendition of “Halleluijah” by two students from Don Bosco College, Tura. The North-East National Service Scheme Festival-2020 (20th -24th January) is being hosted by Don Bosco College, Tura with the cooperation of NSS Units of Tura Government College, Durama College, Tura, and few other colleges from Garo Hills region. The festival is being attended by about 300 NSS volunteers from various colleges of the eight North-Eastern states of India. The flag hoisting was in perfect synchrony with the singing of the NSS Anthem led by the NSS volunteers of Tura Government College.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest, Shri Anurag Kumar, IPS, DIG Western Range, Tura emphasized on selfless voluntary service and the necessity to give back to society what one has received. He cited the example of ‘the good Samaritan’ and urged the gathering to render generous service to those in need. Prof. Nikme S. C. Momin, HOD, Department of Education, NEHU Tura Campus, who was one of the Guests of Honour emphasized on self preparation with a view to serve others. She reminded about inner preparation and garnering and reinforcing of inner strength in order to be of greater and better service to the community. Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, Salesian Provincial of the Province of Guwahati spoke about community service and expressed his great joy at the number of NSS volunteers at the Festival. He stated that the number of youth volunteering for service is a great is a sign of great hope for future. Dipak sharma, Yourh Officer, NSS, Regional Directorate, Guwahati highlighted the NSS Structure in general and NE NSS Festival 2020 in particular. Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, Principal, Don Bosco College, Tura welcomed the distinguished guests, Programme Officers and NSS volunteers and expressed his joy that such a festival could be held was being for the first time in Tura.
The NSS volunteers were entertained by Garo traditional Wangala dance and Garo song by the hosts. The Inauguration Programme came to an end with the singing of National Anthem by everyone present.
