Don Bosco Jayanti celebrations

The staff and students of Don Bosco College, Tura paid fitting homage to the renowned and revered Don Bosco, Founder of worldwide Don Bosco institutions on his 203rd birth anniversary on 16th August, 2018.  A prayer service and floral tributes to the statue of the great saint was a small gesture to keep alive the memory of Don Bosco.

At a special Assembly held in honour of this great saint, motivator and friend of the youth,       Fr. Bivan R Mukhim, the Principal highlighted Don Bosco’s contribution to education of the youth around the world.  The preventive system of education which is the hallmark of Don Bosco schools, colleges and universities has been widely acclaimed as a unique and proactive method of education.

Fr. George Plathottam, Rector of Don Bosco College, Tura enlightened the gathering about the humble beginnings of Don Bosco, the Italian saint. Fr. Plathottam said that the alumni of Don Bosco institutions are today found in all walks of life, making great contributions to nation building and to society at large.  Second only to government of India, Don Bosco skill training institutes across the country provide not only training but also job placements for multitudes of youth. Fr. Plathottam urged the students to be proud of their heritage and always strive for excellence in whatever they did. He commended the students’ generosity in reaching out to the less privileged, joining in campaigns for protecting the environment and even donating blood when needed.

On this occasion, Shri Krishna Kumar, Senior Constable of the 75th BSF battalion was felicitated for his dedicated commitment in training the NCC cadets for an entire month in the run-up to the Independence Day celebrations.

Fr. Albert D. Sangma, Vice-Principal, Don Bosco College, Tura also gave away the prizes to the winners of the Inter-class Basketball tournaments on the occasion.

The singing of the National Anthem was a fitting finale to the Don Bosco Jayanti celebrations.
