Twenty five cadets led by the NCC CTO Sengphrang A. Sangma went at 1:30 pm to clean up and prepare the place for the celebration of the 100 years of Garo Labour Corps Day on 16th July 2018. The celebration is an annual event to salute the brave men of the 69th Garo Labour Corps who served in the First World War (April 1917 to May 1981) in France.
The cadets washed the memorial and cleaned up the surroundings of the cenotaphs and placed flags around to make the day a solemn one. Ms. Sabrella B. Marak, CEO of the Tura Municipal Board (TMB) thanked the NCC cadets for the initiative taken to clean up the cenotaph. She said that this initiative of the cadets should continue. “One of the important initiatives of the NCC is social responsibility. Let the NCC cadets of Don Bosco College Tura continue taking part in bringing about change in the town of Tura,” she added.
The Principal, Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim expressed gratitude to Tura Municipal Board for allowing the NCC cadets of the college to adopt and clean the cenotaph. “This is a small contribution that the college could offer to the memory of the great men who sacrificed their lives to bring honour and glory to the community,” the Principal said.
