CLEANING DRIVE AND TREE PLANTATION BY NCC & NSS VOLUNTEERS
A group of 85 enthusiastic NCC and NSS volunteers of Don Bosco College Tura decided to put into action the dictum #Beat Plastic Pollution by launching out on a cleaning drive at Edenbari river source, West Garo Hills. The students were escorted by PO Shri Suraj Pradhan and PO Shri Salkam S Momin. CTO Sengprang A Sangma of NCC accompanied them. After the cleaning drive each of them planted a sapling along the river banks and pledged to care for them.
Kumari Agatha K. Sangma, MLA 51 South Tura Constituency flagged off the cleaning and plantation drive. She boosted their enthusiasm by interacting with them in a very friendly manner. While appreciating their efforts, Agatha exhorted them to unitedly engage in keeping the place clean and green.
Every volunteer was blessed with a free gift of a sapling from the hands of the MLA.
On reaching the venue the students were divided into three groups, each tasked with different responsibilities of cleaning, planting, watering and organizing the event. The POs encouraged the volunteers to participate in greater numbers for future programmes. This would help in bringing about the much needed societal changes towards a greener environment.
The programme ended with light refreshments for all. The Principal Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim thanked the district administration for providing transportation to the venue and back.
