DON BOSCO COLLEGE – NCC OBSERVES SWACHHTA SAMAROH

The NCC Unit of Don Bosco College, Tura on 9th May 2018 observed Swachhta Samaroh to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The event planned for the day was the cleanliness drive by the NCC cadets. The cadets cleaned the college campus and around the statue of Jesus Christ near the Don Bosco College of Teacher Education, Sampalgre – Tura.
The cleanliness drive was coordinated by Mr. Sengprang A. Sangma, CTO of the college. He was assisted by the office staff Mr. Shiv R. Marak and other support staff of the college. Other staff members also participated in the cleanliness drive.
At the very outset, Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, Principal spoke to the cadets to always keep the environment and the college campus clean. He said that the purpose of the cleanliness drive was to bring about awareness not only among the cadets but also the students at large to be environment friendly and keep the surrounding clean. He pointed out that the responsibility of cleaning the campus is not only of the support staff but of the entire college community. He praised the gardener for the hard work and dedication in maintaining the flower gardens and the campus. He also mentioned that he had visited many colleges and institutions and hadn’t found anywhere a campus which was so clean and neat like the college campus. “I found that the Don Bosco College campus is clean and green, let us work hard to preserve the cleanliness of the campus,” he said.
He also mentioned that the maintenance of the clean and green campus will help one to also maintain a healthy environment at home. Everyone needs to work towards a clean environment. He added that the Government of India under “Swachh Bharat” campaign is doing its level best to create awareness of a clean environment. As NCC cadets everyone needs to create awareness about this. He also said that the college planned to clean up the Tura Peak as part of the initiative of “Swachh Bharat”.
The NCC cadets enthusiastically took part in the cleanliness drive. Some are of the opinion that many more cleanliness drives could be organized in the near future to keep the college campus clean and green. The NCC cadets completed the cleanliness drive in an hour. After the cleanliness drive the Principal spoke to the cadets regarding the NCC camp that was scheduled for 12th May 2018. The cleanliness drive concluded with tea for all the cadets.
