Commerce Department observes World Consumer Rights Day

 

On World Consumer Rights Day (15th March 2018) the Department of Commerce organized a one day seminar cum Food Fest to mark the importance of the day. The theme of the seminar is “Making Digital Market Places Fairer.” Mr. K. Mahimaraj, Head of the Department welcomed the gathering and said that the seminar will help in making the students conscious consumers in today’s market which is vast.

Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, Principal addressed the students and spoke on the need to be aware of the market scenario. He said that in a vast country like India, there is a need for greater awareness on the part of the consumer to know how the market functions so that one is not cheated while buying and selling. He also commented on online shopping which is a recent and common trend among young people of the country. “Young people in India buy things online and this has great advantage as commodities which are not available here are purchase from any of the shop in any part of the country through online shopping,” he said. “One should know the pros and cons of online shopping so that one does not get cheated while buying from it,” he added.

Dr. Sabindra Rajbongshi from the Commerce Department presented a PPT on Market Awareness. The students of the department also presented PPTs prepared by the students like Consumer Rights and Responsibility etc,.

In the afternoon as a practical in market management the department organized Food Fest acting as sellers and the students of the college gathered to buy the food that was prepared for the occasion.
