Matribhasha Diwas observed in the College

The college on 21st February 2018 observed the International Mother Language Day or Matribhasha Diwas to promote the dissemination of mother tongues and fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue.

A good number of students took part in the Essay competition organized on the theme: “Importance and Preservation of Mother Tongue” by the Garo Department to celebrate the day. The essay will help the students understand to respect the mother tongue particularly in Northeast India where people speak a number of languages. The participants could write the essay in the following languages: Garo, Khasi, Bengalee, Assamese, Bodo, Nepali and Hindi.

The Diwas was observed with the following objectives: to highlight the linguistic diversity of our country. To encourage usage, not only of the respective mother tongue, but other Indian languages as well. To understand and draw attention to the diversity of cultures, in India and the consequent forums of literature, craft, performing arts, scripts and other forms of creative expression. To encourage the learning of languages, other than one's own mother tongue etc,.

The students who won the essay writing competition will be felicitated with a trophy, a certificate and a cash award during the assembly time. The Principal expressed his gratitude to the Garo department for taking the initiative to conduct the essay competition and seeing to the celebration of matribhasha divas.
