Parents’ Meet 2018

 

About seventy parents of the Science and Commerce students took part in the Parents’ Meet organized for the students of Science and Commerce on 10th February 2018. The meeting was called so that the parents are briefed about the college and the performance of their ward.

Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim, Principal welcomed the parents and presented the parents the mission and the vision of the college through a Powerpoint presentation. In his spe0ech he thanked the parents for the trust and confidence placed on the college. He said that Don Bosco College, Tura is the only NAAC Accredited College in the entire Garo Hills. “Don Bosco College is preparing to get the NAAC reaccredited. It is one of its kind among all the college in the five districts of Garo Hills,” he said. He also added that the college is doing its best to give the best to the students studying in the college.

He assured the parents that their wards are in safe hands and that the management and the professors are giving the best to the students.  He implored the parents to see that the students come regularly to the college and that they have good attendance. He also said that the university requires 75% attendance of the students and the college is serious about it. “Any students not having the required attendance will not be allowed to sit for the semester examination,” the Principal added.

Dr. Arindom Ghosh, HOD Physics and Mr. K. Mahimaraj, HOD Commerce and Dr. Sabindra Rajkhowa from the commerce department shared about the department. They projected the strengths and weaknesses of the department and asked the parents to be instrumental in helping the students.

Fr. George Plathottam, Rector Don Bosco College spoke to the parents and said that the college will soon begin coaching for civil services aspirants. He said that work is started to give the students opportunities to take part in civil services coaching. He also enlightened the parents on other coaching classes in preparation for medical and engineering coaching for interested aspirants.

 

During the question hours many parents are of the opinion that the college should introduce uniform for the students. A Parents Association was started during the meetings and office bearers will be formed to keep the association functioning. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Fr. Albert D. Sangma, Vice Principal after which tea was served for all the parents.
