Saleng encourages students to put God first and never give up on education
TURA, Oct 27 — In his maiden visit to the renowned Don Bosco College, Tura, as Chief Guest for the inauguration of College Week 2025, Shri Saleng A. Sangma, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, exhorted students to “put God first,” reminding them that God never fails those who turn to Him in faith and sincerity.
Addressing a packed gathering of students and faculty, the MP urged the youth never to give up on education, calling it the foundation of personal growth and social transformation. “Along with divine help, one must work diligently and persevere to achieve success,” he said, drawing from his own life experiences.
Recounting his student days at Don Bosco, Shri Saleng shared fond memories of his achievements in sports and the encouragement he received from his then Principal, Fr. V. A. Cyriac. He candidly spoke of how the fear of not being able to provide well for his family motivated him to take education seriously. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,” he said, inspiring students to blend faith with effort in their pursuit of excellence.
Principal Fr. Januarius Sangma warmly welcomed the MP back to his alma mater, remarking, “Once a Bosconian, always a Bosconian.” He praised today’s Bosconians as young people full of aspirations and lauded the MP as “a leader who goes to the people rather than waiting for the people to come to him.”
Accompanying the MP were Mrs. Ferlina C. A. Sangma, Retd. MCS Officer and former MLA of Selsela, Mr. Benny Roger, Mr. Prewil Ch Marak, and several other dignitaries. The event concluded with a lively cultural programme presented by the students and faculty, showcasing the rich talent and spirit of Don Bosco College, Tura.
