Field visit by Department of Zoology to Chibol/Do.bul Lake, Damalgre, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya
The students (16 numbers) of 6th semester Zoology department with their teacher guides visited the Chibol Lake near Damalgre on 5th April 2019. The objective of the visit was to study the planktonic diversity in the lake.
The spot is approx 20 Kms away from Tura town and having the coordinates 25.52260N, 90.10010E. The collection of water samples was done in between 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The size of the lake is 0.04 sq Km. It was observed that locals were fishing in the lake by nets as fishing gears and locally made rafts to wade through the waters.
The students used the rafts to go to the middle portion of the lake to collect the water sample and some samples were collected from the lake border. The spots were randomly chosen to collect the water samples. All the students were involved in the exercise of collecting the samples, assorting the samples, rowing the raft etc. In some cases the help of the locals was sought. The samples were brought to the laboratory for further analysis. The result of the analysis made by the students would be uploaded later.
College has provided the necessary financial support in the form of conveyance.
