DBC celebrates International Women’s Day 2019
8th March 2019: The International Women’s Day was celebrated in a solemn manner by the staff and students of Don Bosco College, Tura. The chief Guest for the occasion Smt. Lutherine R. Sangma, Retd. IAS spoke at length covering the issues of gender equality, and empowerment of women. Addressing an amphi-theatre-packed students, she stated that women are soft targets of social abuse and that until and unless women struggle they will not be empowered. The Chief Guest also exhorted everyone present to be grateful to the Government for establishing Department of social Justice and Empowerment. In this connection she referred to BAKDIL, the biggest NGO in Garo Hills and associated Self-Help Groups. The Guest of Honour, Smt. Ferline A. Sangma also spoke on the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day Celebration, which is, BalanceforBetter and the great role that women play in their homes, society and the world at large. She pleaded for equal representation of women in all walks of life. The resource persons for the occasion were Smt. Agatha Christie, (MPS), DSP-Tura and Second in Command, 2nd MLP Battalion, Goeragre, Tura and Dr. David R. Sangma, MD., who spoke on the topics “Women- Safety” and “Women-Health” respectively. Rev. Fr. Bivan Rodriques Mukhim- Principal of the college and Dr. Barbara S. Sangma, Coordinator of Committee for the Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace too spoke on the occasion.
