Don Bosco College, Tura celebrated National Science Day-2017 on 28th February 2017 with the rest of the country in order to commemorate the invention of ‘RAMAN EFFECT’ by the Indian scientist, Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman on the same day in the year 1928. For his great success in the field of science, Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman was awarded and honoured with the Nobel Prize in the year 1930. National Science Day is an important annual event for the faculty of science in which all the departments participate. The celebration gives the students an opportunity to demonstrate various science-based skills and talents through debates, quiz, competitions, lectures, an exhibition of science models and many more activities. This year’s event had a poster and extempore speech competition on the theme ‘Science and Technology for specially abled person’ followed by science talk, movie show on science fiction. Dr. Madhusudhan Saha, Convener of the programme, Dr. Biswajit Paul, Senior faculty member and Fr.(Dr.) George Plathottam, sdb Principal of the college spoke on the occasion. The Principal stressed the importance of developing a scientific temper and urged the students to use their talents and skills for the betterment of the society. The event came to a close with the much-awaited prize distribution to the winners of the day’s events. Mr. Tenang R Marak of the Department of Zoology proposed the vote of thanks.
